The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime has confirmed the restoration of peace and sanity in Kasese district despite las weekend’s attacks on security installations by panga wielding assailants.
The seemingly coordinated attacks by wrong elements armed with pangas targeting security installations happened in the wee hours of Saturday in the areas of Kasese town, Rugendabara, Fort portal and Bundibugyo left 19 confirmed people put out of action by security personnel and 40 arrested.
Addressing the press today afternoon at Kasese Central Police Sation, SP Tumushime lauded the residents for cooperating with the security through giving timely information during the raids, adding that the situation had normalized.
He revealed that as a security measure, they had intensified night patrols especially in the urban centres as well as conducting community sensitization engagements aimed at uprooting some wrong elements in the society.
About the accidents, Tumushime revealed that they registered three separate cases of accidents last week where one of them was fatal.
He urged the road users to strictly adhere to the road rules and regulations in order to minimize some crashes.
