Muslim leaders in Kasese have called on the world to be party to efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and a quick end to hostilities in the Middle East.
The calls for cessation of hostilities come after close to two weeks when the United States together with Israel raided Iran, a war that has since claimed thousands of people, including the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Speaking to the media shortly after the Eid al fitr prayers, at Kisanga Main Mosque in Kasese Municipality, the Kasese District Khadhi, Sheikh Musa Baluku Sudiki observed the need for a quick end to armed conflict which he said claims a lot of innocent lives and property.
He noted that the raging war will have a far-reaching effect on the global economy since oil and gas fields are key targets for destruction by both parties.
However, Naswibu Musenene, the General Secretary for the Uganda Muslim Supreme council in Kasese wondered why the US involves itself in the internal affairs of other countries. He emphasised the need for all countries to adhere to international law and respect the sovereignty of all countries.
The Eid Al fitr is a holiday on the Islamic calendar which marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting in which Muslims believe God revealed the Qurʾān to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel.
The celebration at Kisanga Main Mosque attracted dignitaries, including Sarah Ithungu Baleke, the Kasese District Woman MP-elect who asked the Muslims to champion peace initiatives even after the fasting season.
