Marule and Mbakania threaten to contest as independent candidates for Busongora County North parliamentary seat, Kasese

Mr. Robert Masereka Marule, one of the people who participated in the recently concluded NRM primary elections seeking the party flag for the position of Member of Parliament representing Busongora County North in Kasese district has officially declared to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 General Elections.

On Thursday July 17, 2025, members of the NRM party went to the polls to select their flag bearers for the positions of Constituency Members of Parliament and District Woman Member of Parliament.

In Busongora County North, Marule who as among the six contestants, came in the second position after garnering 14,628 votes while Hon Sowedi Kitanywa was announced the winner with 14,503 votes.

While addressing the press today morning at Virina Gardens in Kasese town, Marule who claimed that after the results had been announced, the residents were not happy with them. According to him, they demanded him to participate in the General Elections as an independent candidate.

While speaking to journalists today at Verina gardens in Kasese town Eng. Marule said he was also not pleased with what the NRM read at the tally centre and noted that severally since 2020 he had been in the race and the same happened which he said they are beating the NRM and leaving the party without potential candidates.

Eng. Marule said he is coming as independent to console the NRM party and see the picture of the leader the residents demand for and he wondered how an elected member of parliament would severally score 00 on round 10 polling stations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mike Asiimwe Mbakania, who came in the third position today morning stormed the District NRM offices in Kasese town seeking documentary evidence so that he petitions the party’s National Electoral Commission to overturn the election results in his favour.

According to Mbakania, the District NRM leadership should have declared him as the winner instead of Hon. Kitanywa. He argued that the election was rigged, a reason why he wants documents from the district party offices as part of his evidence as he forges a way forward.
