Lay readers challenged to prepare for retirement

BY ISAAC MUMBERE

Lay leaders in the South Rwenzori Diocese have been advised to prepare for retirement, regardless of their age or canonical status.

Rev. Canon Nelson Walina, the Diocesan Secretary, emphasized this point at the closing ceremony of a three-day retreat for lay leaders and their spouses.

The retreat, held at Maliba Archdeaconry headquarters, focused on themes such as family management, financial management, and spiritual growth.

Can. Walina cautioned that retirement can come unexpectedly due to factors like illness or church disciplinary actions.

Ven. Manaseh Takwenda, Archdeacon of Maliba, urged lay leaders to set examples in their communities and imitate the life of Christ.

He emphasized the importance of demonstrating love and togetherness in their families.

Senior Lay Leader Edson Tabugha stressed the need for families to work together to spread God’s word.

He encouraged lay leaders to involve their children in church activities and maintain a Godly image.

Mrs. Yeresi Monday Nzabake, a lay reader’s wife at All Saints Rugendabara church of Uganda reminded fellow mothers of their role as earthly parents and guardians, emphasizing the importance of religious motivation and guidance.
