Landslide victims encamped at Nyambuku in Kasese receive relief items

Landslide victims encamped at Nyambuku Primary School in Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council, Busongora County North in Kasese district have got a reason to smile after they received relief items from John Monday Wakighoma.

On April 20, 2025 at least 520 people from eight villages in both Ibanda- Kyanya Town Council and Maliba sub-counties were affected by landslides that destroyed their houses.

The affected persons including 157 children of school going age were left with no option apart from seeking refuge at Nyambuku Primary School.

Mr. Johnson Kuleya Kingora, the Chairperson for Nyambuku Cell in Kyanya Ward reported that despite informing government about the disaster that befell them, nothing has been done to help the victims.

According to him, the time that they have spent in the camp, at least five expectant mothers have delivered from the camp under difficult situations.  

Saulo Bwambale Mughunza, the Camp Chairperson revealed that there was a group of people that was misinforming the leaders saying the camp was nonexistent.

Today afternoon, Wakighoma visited the encamped persons and delivered 500 kilograms of cassava flour, 100 kilograms and 100 packets of salt to them.

Wakighoma, who is one of the parliamentary hopefuls for Busongora County North, told the landslide victims once given the mandate to represent the electorate in the August House, he would work towards fighting against poverty from the population through empowering women and boda-boda groups economically.

He also revealed that he would work on the roads, ensure rural electrification and extend water to some areas without.

Wakighoma also pledged that once elected as a Member of Parliament, he would ensure that the landslide victims are resettled coupled with establishing skills centres that would be used for salon and tailoring trainings among others.
