Kisanga Ward Councilor in Nyamwamba Division suspended from the council sittings

BY ABDALA MASEREKA

Hon. Leonard Kasereka, the Nyamwamba Division Council representing Kisanga Ward has been suspended from attending two consecutive council sittings following the alleged misconduct.

Kasereka was suspended yesterday by the Council Speaker, Hon Gerald Muzora during a council sitting that was held at Half Landon in Kasese town.

Although yesterday’s council sitting was aimed at approving the budget for the Financial Year 2025/2026, Mr. Muzora could not hide to express his disappointment over Mr. Kasereka’s previous conduct.

Muzora argued that on March 28, 2025 during a council sitting, Kasereka grabbed the mace in contest of the reallocation of funds meant for the construction of Kisanga Market to Kizungu market.

Following his behaviour, Mazora said he was left with no option apart from adjourning the council sitting for about 15 minutes.

In his closing remarks during yesterday’s council sitting, Mr. Muzora announced to the councilors that he had decided to suspend Kasereka for two consecutive sittings as a punishment for his deeds.

Speaking to the press shortly after the council sitting, Hon. Kasereka said the Speaker’s pronouncement came as a surprise since he had written to him requesting for a reallocation to another committee after resigning from his position as Secretary for Works and Technical Services.

He, however, said he would consult his Lawyers about the Speaker’s decision to suspend him from council for two consecutive sittings. More

Speaking to the press later at the council session, the Nyamwamba Division Chairperson, Mr. Pimako Kasereka, said he was happy that the approved budget amounting to shillings 978, 275,09 will greatly cater for buying public lands on which to construct more markets and opening up more roads and constructing roof sheds in Kisanga market commonly known as Mawa market.
