Katwe – Kabatooro Town Council misappropriates over shillings 37 million

Katwe – Kabatooro Town Council in Kasese district has misappropriated shillings 37,473,700.

The revelation was made yesterday afternoon by the Kasese District Vice Chairperson, Mr. Girivazo Monday Bwambale during the People’s Parliamentary Anti-corruption that was held today at the District Council Hall in Rukoki.

According to him, an audit report for July – November 2023 from the Inspector General of Government that was released this year on October 02, indicates that Katwe – Kabatooro Town Council collected shillings 159,141,600 and banked  and used appropriately 121,667,900 but the remaining balance of shillings 37,473,700 was used contrary to the Financial and Accounting Regulation, 2007.

He explained that the Inspector General of Government has given only 14 days to the Urban Centre’s authorities to have refunded the said money.

Mr. Henry Kabiriri, the Kasese Assistant RDC in-charge of Busongora who chaired the meeting condemned the act and conquered with the audit report’s recommendation that the suspects should pay back the money.

Ms Angela Byanwa, the Executive Director at Rwenzori Anti-corruption Coalition revealed that her office has a long list of corruption issues from Kasese district which she promised to make a follow-up on.  

Some of the issues she mentioned include the de-silting works of River Nyamwamba Channel and the construction of Katarasa road in Bulembia Division. ENDS
