The National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the Kasese District Woman Parliamentary Seat, Mrs. Fatuma Kamama Kathembo has encouraged legislators from the district to properly advise the government on the National Coffee Amendment Bill, 2024.
The bill aims at dissolving the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) and transfers its functions to the Ministry responsible for agriculture.
This change aligns with the Government Policy on the Rationalization of Government Agencies and Public Expenditure, serving related purposes.
Now, Mrs. Kathembo argues that the farmers who directly deal with the cash crop should be consulted because they are among the stakeholders.
She sounded encouragement last evening while addressing the congregation that had thronged a fundraising drive at Jesus of Nazareth Trust Church in Kibiri Village, Muhokya Sub-county in Busongora County South.
According to her, legislators from Kasese should work as a team irrespective of their political party affiliations to request government to reverse its decision.
The NUP leader, who had revealed that Kasese was among the leading districts in coffee growing, later delivered eight physical iron sheets to support the roofing works of the church that is still under construction and over shillings 1.5 million was collected in cash for the same noble cause.
