Residents in Kasese District have welcomed a new program codenamed, “Efficient Electric Cooking,” which has been introduced in Uganda and implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
The program is primarily aimed at minimizing the use of fuel and smoky fires as well as saving time and efforts of women in their respective families.
The community members pronounced support to the program today afternoon while speaking to our reporter shortly after the launch and introduction of the program ad their leaders at the Rwenzori Square in Kasese town.
Mrs. Consulate Kabugho, a resident of Kirembe Cell in the Central Division of Kasese Municipality said she was impressed by the initiative, adding that it would help them to live healthier lives since their cooking activities would not be associated with smoky fires.
According to Kabugho, fires that produce smoke have been a burden to them because they put their lives at health risks.
The Kasese Municipal Senior Environmental Officer, Ms Evelyn Mugume was happy that the initiative would help to reduce the challenge of cutting trees that has majorly influenced climatic changes in the district.
Kasese Assistant RDC, Mr. Tien Tsongo pledged to support the program through carrying out serious monitoring and sensitizing the people about the need to embrace it.
