A section of leaders from Kasese district is suggesting that the residents need employable vocational skills aimed at empowering them become self – reliant entrepreneurs.
They sounded the remarks during an official launch of a new project which targets to equip the youth from the districts within the Rwenzori sub-region with entrepreneurial skills. The function was held yesterday at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese town.
Speaker after speaker at the event agreed that Uganda as a country has got many people with bachelor’s degrees but still lack the necessary skills to offer a wide range of solutions to the societal problems.
In an attempt to reduce on the number of youth who are not employed, Young Agro- Green Africa Network (YAGANET), a Kasese based Civil Society Organization has won funds to train the youth to acquire employable skills.
The organization’s Executive Director, Isaya Baluku Katya explained that more than 200,000 youths are going to be helped to have skills in a number of disciplines including agribusiness, food processing, value addition, handcrafts and technology and performing art among others.
According to Katya, his organization together with Uganda Red Cross Society, Kasese branch with support from The Innovation Village Kampala will ensure that each benefiting youth is trained to become a job creator.
The Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi who was represented by the District Councilor representing Kitholhu sub-county, Mr. Nason Kisole, said that the opportunity comes as a game changer since the region has suffered various social conflicts.
