Kasese residents advised to embrace regular medical checkups

The community in Kasese district has urged to always go for regular medical checks in order to reduce the incidences of non-communicable diseases like Hepatitis B among others.

This was during a sensitization meeting of breastfeeding and pregnant mothers that was held at Bwera General Hospital in Bukonzo west constituency in Kasese district.

The Great Lakes Peace Center with support from Gilead has joined health officers in Kasese trying to contain the escalating Hepatitis B Virus disease among the breastfeeding and pregnant mothers in the district.

According to Christopher Oyam, a clinician at Bwera General Hospital there is a surge in the rate of Hepatitis B infections.

Oyam said that out of the 50 pregnant women who tested for Hepatitis B, ten tested positive for the viral disease.

According to Afan Abdulah, from Great Lakes peace center, the proportion of pregnant mothers who know their hepatitis B status has increased from 15% to 20% in Kasese district.

He added that they tasked the health workers to continue sensitizing the pregnant mothers about the viral disease.
