Kasese Municipal Councilors pull ropes over the erection of a fence

BY JOACKIM KULE

The erection of a concrete fence along the premises of Kasese Municipal Council Offices and paving part of the compound has divided the Municipal Councilors.

While some of the councilors support the idea, others are completely opposed to it. The development came to the limelight of the public today afternoon during a council sitting that ended prematurely following the disagreements.

The disagreements started as the councilors were discussing the previous State of Affairs Address of the Mayor. During the discussion, the Municipal Council Speaker, Ukash Swaib Musenene refuted having knowledge about a resolution to have the premises fenced and paved.

However, this did not go well with the councilors. Some were heard conquering with Speaker while other acknowledged having knowledge about the matter.

In a separate interview, Mr. Musenene argued that the implementation of the said capital project in the urban centre was not brought to council for approval, a reason why he decided to adjourn the council until a clear explanation about the development is given.

He stressed that he also wanted to know how much money could have been spent on the project so that the taxpayers’ money is not wasted.

Hon. Tom Adyeri, the Municipal Councilor representing Kisagazi and Umoja Electoral area in Nyamwamba Division noted that as a member of the Works and Technical Services Committee, he was not aware about the matter and wondered how it could have been discussed.

However, the Municipal Secretary for Works and Technical Services who also doubles as the Councilor representing Railway Ward, Hon. John Kisembo Siriwayo told the press that the issue of erecting a fence along the premises was resolved by the previous council that served from 2016 to 2021 of which he was part.

He therefore acknowledged having knowledge about the matter.

The Municipal Mayor, Mr. Chance Kahindo lashed at the Speaker for allegedly having his selfish interests that could have forced him to disorganize the council sitting.

According to Kahindo, the issue of erecting a fence along the premises of the Municipal Council Offices was presented to the councilors and all of them consented since it had been resolved upon by the predecessors.
