BY JOEL KAGUTA

Kasese District leadership has resolved to reduce the ever increasing rate of child abuse cases including defilement, rape, neglect, torture among others.

Statistics from the District’s Probation and Welfare Office indicates that the Local Government registered an increase in child abuse cases from 2,082 in 2018 to 20,653 in 2019.

Mr. Faisal Bagumira Kirarira, the Senior Probation and Welfare Officer, says they will conduct community outreaches and media campaigns as some of the strategies to curb the vice.

Kirara was addressing the press ahead of the celebrations to mark and commemorate the belated Day of the African Childslated for July 31, this year.

The day is globally celebrated on June 16 and in Uganda it was marked in Kiryandongo district but in Kasese district, the day that targets all children shall be celebrated at the multipurpose hall in Kisagazi Cell, Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality.

He called upon the parents and guardians to ensure that their children are protected from any form of abuse so that they grow well.

The Kasese District Community Development Officer, Mr. William Bwambale Capacity, disclosed that many families were still denying their children a right to education and medication.

Sharon Kabugho, the District Communications Officer attributed the increase in child abuse cases to domestic violence that has separated many parents.
