Kasese leaders implore young people to lead the campaign for peace and unity

BY JOACKIM KULE MUHESI

Leaders in Kasese have implored the young people to lead the campaign aimed at peace building and unity across the district.

The leaders sounded the remarks today morning while speaking to a section of youth from selected sub-counties across the district that had thronged White House Gardens in Kasese town for an inception meeting about the “Local Peace Building Policies 2024 – 2031,” a programme that is being implemented by Center for Conflict Resolution (CECORE).

The ongoing campaign that will last for eight years in five districts including Kasese in the South Western Region and Kaboong in Karamoja Region among others is aimed at engaging the youth and women groups in peace building and policy in three sub-counties of each district so that they become change agents in their communities and lead in transforming the attitudes of their peers in the respective communities.

The Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphazi Muhindi Bukombi says young people are supposed to champion messages of peace in order for them to appreciate the role it plays when it comes to sustainable development.

The Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Busongora County, Mr. Zepher Mubingwa observes the need for the youth to play a vital role of sensitizing the population about poverty eradication, arguing that it is one of the leading causes of violence in many families.

According to him, violence in families later accelerates to the communities, leading to absence of peace and subsequently culminates to underdevelopment.
