Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese district has threatened to hold a demonstration against Mr. Geoffrey Sharif Masereka for allegedly failing to handover instruments of power as the Local Council I Chairperson for Kidodo Cell, Central Division in Kasese Municipality.

Addressing the press this evening at the party offices in Kasese town, Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the District FDC Chairperson said he wonders why Mr. Masereka was still performing the duties of a Chairperson despite a High Court ruling two year’s back that there should be a by-election for the said position after Isaya Thembo successfully challenged his election in court.

Kabuku threatened that as a party, they would demonstrate should Mr. Masereka adamantly continue refusing to handover the instruments of power to the Municipal authorities despite a ruling of the High Court.

He also accused the leadership of Kasese Municipal Council including the Mayor and Town Clerk for allegedly keeping quiet when Masereka is carrying out illegal activities and the duties of the Chairperson for Kidodo Cell.

The party has since petitioned the Office of the Mayor over the alleged occupation of the Local Council Office for Kidodo Cell by Mr. Geoffrey Sharif Masereka.

When asked about the matter, Mr. Chance Kahindo, the Municipality Mayor, acknowledged having knowledge about a High Court ruling calling for a by-election in the said electoral area.

Kahindo also noted that the Town Clerk of the Central Division had written a letter to Mr. Masereka informing directing him to handover the instruments of power but in vain.

Speaking to Messiah Radio in a telephone interview, Mr. Masereka, the accused Chairperson said there was no way he would hand over the instrument of power without a Court order.
