The Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Florence Kabugho has broken silence and revealed that she didn’t pick the shillings 100 million allegedly given to legislators by the government.
Kabugho made the revelation last evening at Nyakabale Vocational Secondary School in Bwera sub-county, Bukonzo County West where she had gone to preside over a fundraising driver.
Last Friday, President Museveni confirmed that Members of Parliament recently received shillings 100 million each through the classified funding.
The President in a statement said the money was meant to “promote activities tht help in defeating enemy schemes in Uganda” and insisted that the funds served a patriotic purpose.
In her remarks, Hon. Kabugho told the congregation that the money was given to Members of Parliament as an appreciation for allegedly supporting the Coffee Amendment Bill that was last year passed by parliament.
According to her, she didn’t pick the said money because she didn’t support the bill she claims has a negative effect to the coffee farmers.
She also revealed that the same August House through the Office of the Prime Minister was planning to handle the Land and Court Martial Bills, claiming that if passed, they would negatively affect the community members.

Meanwhile, Mr. Robert Asingya Muthoma, a practicing Lawyer in Kasese Municipality, wants other Members of Parliament to come out and publicly declare if they received they alleged money or not.
Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese District FDC Chairperson suggests that it would be good for the Members of Parliament to bring the shillings 100 million that they received directly to the residents so that they budget for it.
According to him, the approach would help in ensuring that the funds are effectively utilized rather than being allegedly misused by a few individuals.
