Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime, the Minister of State in-charge of National Guidance has confirmed that Kasese district will be split into four administrative units by 2031.
According to him, each of the districts will elect their own leaders in various elective positions every political term.
He made the confirmation today at Lake Katwe Sub- County headquarters situated in Busongora South of Kasese district during the commissioning of the Lower Local Government’s new administration block.
Kabbyanga, who emphasized that all is set for the split after the cabinet’s decision, said that the mantle remains with ascertaining the boundaries, adding that it would be the role of the District Council to address that.
He advised the various ethnic groups living in Kasese to change their mindset including brainwashing their mentality of saying that a certain tribe will claim other pieces of land once the district is split.
He called for unity among all the races in Kasese in order to have the entire process a successful one but also for development-oriented purposes.
Kabbyanga’ s revelation of the district split came after Hon. Muzamiru Bisanga, the District Councillor representing the people of Lake Katwe Sub- County had submitted his request to the minister, claiming for Katwe district.
A few weeks ago, Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa also spearheaded the demand for the creation of Hima district as required by his electorate of Busongora County North.
Kasese district remains among the country’s biggest Local Governments with 44 Lower Local Governments.
