Kagando University College officially inaugurated

The Archbishop of the Province of the Anglican Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has today officially inaugurated Kagando University College in South Rwenzori Diocese, Kasese district.

Kagando University College which was approved and recognized by the National Council for Higher Education and the Ministry of Education and Sports on January 30, this year is a constituent college of Uganda Christian University.

The University College will be overseen by South Rwenzori Diocese as the proprietor and then other Dioceses including Ruwenzori, East Rwenzori and West Rwenzori as approved by the University Council.

Kagando University College becomes another significant development institution that South Rwenzori Diocese has achieved to offer healthcare education training.

While officiating at the inauguration function that was organized under the theme, “Elevating Health Training to Empower Humanity and Unlock Portentails for a Healthy Community,” Archbishop Kaziimba who also doubles as the Chancellor for Uganda Christian University, urged the leadership of the college to uphold the value of integrity and humanity as they run the institution of learning.

He also called on government to prioritize the extension of more healthcare services to the communities so that they are enabled to live wealthier and healthier lives.

The Vice Chancellor for Uganda Christian University, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi highlighted that the University College would begin offering bachelors degree programmes in three disciplines including Nursing science, Midwifery science and Medical laboratory sciences but later increase the courses as the institution grows gradually.

He implored the leaders instituted to run the College to ensure making and branding it a centre for excellence in the entire country.

The South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku commended the leadership of Uganda Christian University for supporting the process of having the University College established at Kagando.

The Prelate applauded the Government of Uganda for the continued support to all the church projects.

Can. Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports who was the Chief Guest and officiated at the 6th Graduation Ceremony observed that the establishment of the University College within Kagando Hospital would help the learners to get more experience and skills especially in practical lessons.

Can. Dr. Turyagyenda commended the church for establishing institutions that are aimed at transforming the lives of the people in their respective communities.
