The Chairperson for the Internally Displaced Persons temporarily encamped at Nyambuko Primary School in Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council has appealed to the government to consider relocating them to the lowlands that are less risky to mudslides.
On April 20, this year, at least four villages in Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council and Maliba sub-county witnessed land and mudslides that displaced over 400 people who are currently living in a temporarily established camp at Nyambuko SDA Primary School.
Mr. Saul Bwambale Mughunza, the Camp Chairperson says following the continuous outbreaks of disasters including mudslides in the area, the government should relocate the residents to safer places as a way of preventing them from losing their lives.
On his part, Mr. Ben Masereka Mughunzaadvocated for the provision of a stretcher to help the residents to transport the expectant mothers to the health facilities given the fact that the only existing road is in a sorry state.
Ms SeforozaMasika, a VHT revealed that whenever it rains, they rush to the church building with all their children for their safety.
Ms Constance Muhindo, another resident, appealed for help through providing them with foodstuffs and domestic utensils.
