Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council Faces Project Implementation Challenges Due to Insufficient Funds

BY EDITOR

Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council in Busongora County North, Kasese district is likely not to implement all her planned projects due to lack of sufficient funds.

The lower local government is currently operating on an approved budget of shillings 367 million for the 2023/2024 financial year.

Mr. Modesto Kanekerya, the Town Council L. C III Chairperson says during this first quarter, they will use about shillings 140 million to work on Nyambuku and Nyakalengijyo roads as well as completing the constriction works of a public toilet at Ibanda Health Centre II.

According to him, Ibanda – Kyanya Town Council receives shillings eight million from the Central Government in form of the Discretionary Development Equalization Grant (DDEG) per year while shillings six million is collected in form of local revenue on a quarterly basis.

He is now skeptical that such insufficient funds will not facilitate all the planned projects in the urban centre.

The Soft spoken leader has since proposed to the central government to increase the funds that it disburses to the Town Councils countrywide so that they are empowered to deliver the required services to the local population.
