Mary Maryln Kabugho, one of the three women who participated in the recently concluded NRM primary elections seeking the party flag for the position of Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament has officially declared to participate in the 2026 General Elections as an independent candidate.
On July 17, the NRM party members went to the polls to elect the flag bearers for the positions of constituency Member of Parliament and District Woman Member of Parliament.
The following day, the Kasese District NRM Registrar, Amon Mbusa declared Sarah Ithungu Masereka Baleke as the duly elected flag bearer.
Following the declaration, Ms Mary Marylyn Kabugho petitioned the NRM Elections Disputes Tribunal challenging the election of Ithungu as the flag bearer citing the alleged irregularities that marred the electoral process.
However, the tribunal later upheld the election of Ithungu as the duly elected flag bearer, a decision that did not go well with Kabugho.
Today morning, Kabugho held a press conference at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese town and officially declared her candidature on an independent ticket, appealing to her supporters to remain calm and committed to the cause.
She also unveiled her symbol of a radio set as an independent candidate with a slogan of the People’s Choice.
