Former Kasese FDC Chairperson says “no re-election of MPs who received 100m cash”

BY JOACKIM KULE MUHESI

Former Kasese District FDC Chairperson has called upon the electorate across the entire Local Government not to re-elect the Members of Parliament who have received the shillings 100 million from government.

Last Friday, President Museveni confirmed that Members of Parliament recently received shillings 100 million each through classified funding.

The President in a statement said the money was meant to “promote activities that help in defeating enemy schemes in Uganda” and also insisted that the funds served a patriotic purpose.

Addressing the press today afternoon at Virina Gardens in Kasese town, Mr. Saulo Maate, who also doubles as the FDC Governor in-charge of the Rwenzori Sub-region revealed that he was disappointed by the act done by government of giving shillings 100 million to the Members of Parliament without specifying its purpose to the public.

The outspoken Maate lashed at the legislators for receiving the money, arguing that they were allegedly not good leaders and advocates for development in their respective communities.

According to Maate, the shillings 100 million given to each of the MPs would have been used to improve infrastructure, health, education and the agricultural sector.

He appealed to the opposition Members of Parliament from Kasese district to declare their position about the shillings 100 million cash transfers, adding that he would not tolerate whoever would be reported having accepted the money.
