BY JEROME KULE BITSWANDE

The former Ambassador of Uganda to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Hon. James Mbahimba has declared his intention to contest for the position of Kasese District NRM Chairperson.

Hon. Mbahimba, who is also a former legislator for Kasese Municipality, made the remarks while addressing the press on Thursday at Virina Gardens in Kasese town.

Mbahimba said he would use the position to ensure the concerns of the people of Kasese are fully appreciated by the NRM’s National Executive Committee.

Mbahimba, who also revealed that he doesn’t intend to seek any position in the general elections, added that he hopes to use the office of the NRM Chairperson to build social cohesion and promote reconciliation among the various candidates after the internal poll of the party which sometimes leaves the members divided.

The position of Kasese District NRM Chairperson is currently being held by Hon. Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Chancellor of Makerere University and former Bukonzo County West MP.

However, Mbahimba opines that the position has since fallen vacant after the NRM Secretary General announced a new road map to elect new party office holders.

He adds that given an opportunity to be at the helm of the NRM in the district, he will always approach Dr Kiyonga for advice since he is a respected elder within the district. ENDS
