BY ISAAC MUMBERE

Flood victims encamped at some temporarily established camps in Kyarumba sub-county and Kyarumba Town Council in Bukonzo County East, Kasese district have been urged to plant trees in an attempt to prevent disasters from re-occurring during the rainy season.

Kasese is among the districts in Uganda that are prone to disasters and in May this year at least 13 people lost their lives to mudslides while others lost their houses and crops.

Addressing the victims at Kabughabugha Church of Uganda, Ms Sylvia Agaba, the Chairperson for Rwenzori Fraternity Association who had a paid a courtesy visit in the area explained that tree planting would help to eliminate the effects of climate change.

She on behalf of the organization delivered two tones of cassava flour, 31 boxes of soap, and 10 sacks of clothes for men, women and children as well as shoes of all categories.

Mr. Wilson Maate Kakembe, a member of the Rwenzori Fraternity Association in-charge of Welfare observed need for making an agreement with the community members when a call for tree planting arises.

Some of the beneficiaries commended Rwenzori Fraternity Association for the relief items given to them, adding that they were timely.
