The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese has lashed at the district leadership for organizing the Golden Jubilee celebrations, arguing that the Local Government remains undeveloped despite the 50 years of existence.
Kasese district was established in the year 1974 after being curved out of Tooro which was first named Rwenzori district and later changed to Kasese district. The district political leadership proposed celebrations in the month of October 2024 with the major objective of appreciating the key milestones the Local Government has achieved since her creation.
However, the district is officially set to celebrate the creation of the Local Government on Wednesday this week, a function that is expected to be presided over by the Head of State, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Nyakasanga Playground in Kasese town.
The Kasese FDC Chairperson, Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, told the press morning at his office in Kasese town that there was no reason to celebrate because most of the projects in the district including the Katwe Salt and Kilembe Copper Mines have remained on a standstill while the education sector allegedly remains unimproved.
Kabuku suggested to the district leadership not to only praise for the creation of the district but to also show the government the gaps that should filled especially the creation of a public university in Kasese that would help the people attain the required qualifications in the mineral sector and aviation services.
Kabuku also used the same platform to call upon the district leadership to remind the government to fulfill the Presidential pledges made to the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu and Omusinga before and after the raid on the palace.
Mr. Alfred Kule Ikwera, the party’s General Secretary advocated for the reinstatement of Katwe Salt Processing Plant on order for the people to get jobs.
Mr. Saulo Maate, the former Kasese FDC Chairperson and Commissioner for the Rwenzori Sub-region advised the leaders not to advocate for the split of the district into more administrative units, adding that they should instead advocate for the creation of more Town Councils, Municipalities and a City coupled with enhancing the Wage Bill so that more staff are employed.
