Ernest Masereka Kasoke to contest for the District Councillorship instead of Chairpersonship

BY JOEL KAGUTA

Mr. Ernest Masereka Kasoke, the former Muhokya Sub-county Chairperson in Kasese district has been asked by a section of the electorate to contest for the position of District Councilor in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.

For the last one and half years, Kasoke has been mobilizing members of the National Unity Platform to endorse him as the party’s official flag bearer for the District Chairpersonship.

But in a meeting organized by a section of the party members which sat today in Busara village, Kasoke was asked to relinquish his political ambitions of contenting for the District Chairpersonship but instead participate in the forthcoming party primary elections as a District Councilor.

Kasoke, who ruled the Greater Muhokya sub-county as the L.C III Chairperson for 10 years, was succeeded by his Secretary for Production, Marketing and Natural Resources, Mr. Asanairi Mugusu.

Mr. John Tuntu, the National Unity Platform Chairperson for Nyamirami Parish welcomed the voters’ suggestion but quickly said the matter would be presented to the relevant party organs for a friendly guidance.

Mr. Tuntu said those who proposed Kasoke to participate in the party primaries did not make a mistake if they based on his past performance as the sub-county boss for Muhokya.

Speaking to Messiah Radio shortly after the meeting, Mr. Kasoke appreciated the voters’ request and agreed to go by their political demand.

Kasoke told the press that he was ready to participate in the forthcoming party primaries without anyone any competitor so that NUP gets someone who would sail through in the General Elections.

However, Mr. Aaron Baluku, the Chairperson for Kyamiza Trading Center decried the lack of proper service delivery in his area.

According to him, the area lacks safe and clean drinking water coupled with other healthcare services.

The position of Muhokya Sub-county District Councilor is currently vacant after Mr. Johnson Maate Mulekeri secured a government job and he is deployed by Kasese District Local Government at Nyamirami Health Centre IV.
