Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Chancellor for Makerere University has recounted that a number of pro- people initiatives which personally introduced in Bukonzo County West and the entire Kasese district have been fundamental towards the realization of improved livelihoods.
Dr. Kiyonga says despite losing the parliamentary seat for two consecutive times, he had been there for the people and trying to work towards finding solutions to some of their challenges including food insecurity at their respective homes through bringing cassava stem cuttings and encouraging families to grow them for their own good.
According to him, such pro-people programmes could be the reason why people rallied behind him in the recently concluded MRM primary elections.
On July 17, NRM went to the polls to choose the party flag bearers ahead of the 2026 General Elections and In Bukonzo County West, Dr. Kiyonga retained the flag after garnering 19,965 votes challenging the Minister of State for National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga who got 10,218 votes and Milton Wangalima who obtained 430 votes.
He says in addition to promoting pro -people, he also conducted massive mobilization and kept a close relationship with his voters.
He now pledges to ensure effective service delivery to the people of Bukonzo County West and Kasese district at large through enhancing water supply, electricity and sufficient healthcare services among others once elected back to parliament.
Mr. Reuben Sabiiti, the Karambi Sub- County NRM party Chairperson claims that for the time Dr. Kiyonga has been out of parliament, the constituency has not realized any further development, courting the electorate to vote for him as a visionary leader.
