Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, the Kasese District NRM Chairperson and Bukonzo County West Parliamentary hopeful has publicly revealed plans of meeting the incumbent area Member of Parliament, Hon. Godfrey Atkins Katusabe so that together they devise means of developing the constituency and Kasese district at large.
Dr. Kiyonga, who was a Member of Parliament representing Bukonzo County West for many years, was in 2016 replaced by Katusabe.
But at fundraising drive held on Sunday at St John the Baptist Kasanga Roman Catholic Church in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council, Dr. Kiyonga said he was monitoring the leadership skills of his successor, adding that he would talk to him to join the ruling party because he is a visionary leader.
He was optimistic that if Hon. Katusabe agrees to join NRM, he would convince President Museveni as a member of Central Executive Committee of the ruling party to elevate Mpondwe – Lhubiriha Town Council to a Municipality status so that Katusabe takes it as a Member of Parliament as Dr. Kiyonga remains in Bukonzo County West as an MP in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
The former Defense Minister acknowledged that the district has got unfulfilled pledges by government and President Museveni whose follow-up requires joint efforts of the visionary leaders.
The pledges according to him include upgrading Kasese Airstrip, revamping Kilembe Mines and Katwe Salt factory as well as opening Mpondwe border so that it resumes its normal operations.
Kiyonga also implored the people of Kasese to overwhelmingly support President Museveni and all NRM candidates in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
When asked to comment about Dr. Kiyonga’s plans to meet him, Hon. Katusabe declined to comment about the matter.
However, earlier in his communication to the congregation, Hon. Katusabe had applauded Dr. Kiyonga and described him as a mentor of all political players in the district.
