Christians challenged to embrace intense prayer as they begin lent season

BY MATHIUS KAHUNGU

Christians have been challenged to embrace intense prayer accompanied by fasting and helping the needy in a bid to restore their broken relationship with God during this Lenten season that has officially commenced toady.

The Challenge was sounded today morning by the South Rwenzori Diocesan Director of Mission and Evangelism, Rev. William Muhindo Musisi while Preaching to Christians who had gathered at St. Paul’s Cathedral to attend the Ash Wednesday celebration service.

In Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks the start of the 40-day Lenten season, a solemn period of prayer, fasting, and repentance for Christians, leading up to Easter, signifying  a reflection on mortality and a call to spiritual renewal, often observed by the imposition of ashes on the forehead.

Rev. Musisi tipped Christians to use this period to mend broken relationships.

Ven. Rev. Robert Ziwa the Sub-dean for St. Paul’s Cathedral used the same podium to implore Christians to embrace reconciliation and also to prioritise alms-giving.

At Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral Parish, while presiding over a holy mass, Rev. Fr. Joachim Kihembo of the Diocese of Kasese asked Christians to fast with a purpose and also consider Alms giving which is among the pivotal values of the Lenten period.
