The Busongora County South Member of Parliament, Gideon Thembo Mujungu has called for immediate support from the Office of the Prime Minister to the victims of last evening’s catastrophe that befell Katwe – Kabatooro Town Council leaving at least 65 houses destroyed.

Hon. Mujungu, who visited the affected area, observed that the incident did not spare the roofs of a police shelter and Daystar International Ministries Church near Lake Munyanyange.

The legislator was seen visiting the most affected cells including Kiganda and Kyarukara before advising the victims not to camp in a specific place. He pledged to compile a report to the Office of the Prime Minister so that it delivers support to over 300 people who have become homeless.

He, however, observed need for the local leaders to encourage the residents to plant more trees that would act as wind breakers.

According to him, all the houses that were affected are located in open places with no trees around them.

Mr. Robert Honey, the Local Council I Chairperson for Kyarukara B cell and his counterpart for Kyarukara A cell, Mr. Patrick Baguma commended Hon. Mujungu for his quick response and the comfort given to the victims. They appealed to all stakeholders to come to the victim’s rescue.

Annah Birungi and Naboth Deo, some of the affected persons called for help from government through the Office of the Prime Minister.
