Bishop Baluku encourages parents to financially support privately hired teachers

Parents in Kasese district have been encouraged to offer financial support to the privately hired teachers who are currently teaching the learners in government grant-aided primary schools following the industrial action of pay rolled teachers as a means of motivating them.

On September 15, primary teachers under their umbrella body, the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) declined to report back to their respective schools, citing a low pay.

Today afternoon, while at Kisinga Vocational Secondary School in Kisinga Town Council on his pastoral visit, the Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku, commended the efforts of the privately hired teachers towards teaching the learners especially those in their candidate classes.

He therefore appealed to the parents to prioritize the payment of school dues so that the institutions of learning in which their children are studying from can be able to get enough money to the wages of those teachers so that they are motivated to do the work.

The Prelate also asked the parents to add their voices to the rest of the people requesting the teachers to call off their strike, arguing that the time lost is likely to affect the performance of primary seven candidates.

Earlier, in his preaching, Bishop Baluku reiterated the need for them to strategically position themselves, discouraging them from following friends who might distract them from their focus and asked them to emulate the Biblical Zaccheus who strategically positioned himself to see Jesus.

Benjamin Masereka, the Head teacher at Kisinga Vocational Secondary School, in his report to the Bishop, indicated that the teachers have always fought hard in ensuring spiritual growth among the students as well as discipline.

During the function, the Man of God confirmed 72 Christians into the Anglican faith. 25 of the confirmands were from Bright Star Nursery and Primary School, 14 from Garama Secondary School and 33 from Kisinga Vocational Secondary School.

He also dedicated 263 senior four and 108 senior six candidates to the Lord ahead of the forthcoming UCE and UACE examinations.
