At least 222 cases of Red Eyes (Conjunctivitis) have been registered and confirmed in Kasese district.
The revelation was made today by Mr. Arafat Bwambale, the District Surveillance Focal Person while speaking during a meeting of the Sub-District Surveillance Focal Persons and Health Inspectors that were drawn from all the counties across the district. The meeting was held at the District Health Boardroom in Rukooki.
In his report, Mr. Bwambale indicated that 105 cases are from Bukonzo County West, 44 from Kasese Municipality, 56 from Busongora County North, 07 from Busongora County South and 10 from Bukonzo County East.
He explained that despite confirming only 222 cases of Red Eyes across the entire district, the Surveillance teams are still receiving more alerts from Bukonzo County West which is mostly affected by the infection.
He appealed to the general public to embrace the use of preventive measures including washing hands and avoiding body touches among others as the simplest way of fighting against the disease from spreading further.
Mr. Steven Bagonza, the Acting District Health Officer, noted that Kasese is prone to some epidemics that are confirmed in the neighbouring districts.
He, however, noted that health department would use the Village Health Team (VHT) members to sensitize the people in their respective villages about how to prevent the spread of Red Eyes.
