Misairi Thembo Kahungu officially declares interest to vie for Bukonzo County East Parliamentary seat

Mr. Misairi Thembo Kahungu, a renowned journalist has officially declared his interest to contest to contest for the Bukonzo County East Parliamentary seat in the 2026 General Elections.

Kahungu, popularly known as “Ogga” and a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) made the official declaration yesterday while returning the expression of interest forms to the district party leadership at their branch offices in Kasese town.

Accompanied by Mr. Selevano Mbabugha, a resident of Mahango sub-county who proposed him and Mr. Francis Kanyabungu, the FDC Youth Chairperson for Kyondo Sub-county, who was among the people who seconded him, Mr. Kahungu arrived at the party branch offices at around 2:30pm and subsequently handed the filled forms to the party Commissioner, Mr. Geoffrey Bwambale.

Bwambale then allowed Mr. Kahungu to go to the ground and explain his vision to the people as the party prepares for vetting exercise slated for next year.

According to him, Kahungu becomes the third person out of eight that have picked expression of interest forms for the position of Member of Parliament for Bukonzo County East to return the forms as the party prepares to close the exercise on March 05.  

Speaking in a jovial mood, Mr. Kahungu, who said will be completing 21 years in the journalism career in November this year and 05 years as a parliamentary reporter, noted that he would use that experience to ably understand the people’s challenges and give effective representation to them in the August House.

He used the same platform to appeal to his fellow contestants to remain peaceful and united the same way they have been for the purposes of party cohesion.

Mr. Kahungu revealed that one of the major issues that have forced him to contest for the parliamentary position is the sustainability of the FDC in Bukonzo County East.

Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Kasese FDC Chairperson, said as a party they have no option apart from allowing Mr. Kahungu to go on ground and consult the electorate.

He, however, asked him to maintain the due discipline that is needed for the party to prosper.

According to him, FDC wants to reclaim all elective positions in the district.

On their part, Mr. Selevano Mbabugha and Francis Kanyabungu pledged to lobby support for Mr.  Kahungu so that he represents the electorate of Bukonzo East in the 12th Parliament.
