The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Kasese district has lashed at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for allegedly using its real members to camouflage that they belong to the opposition and subsequently denounce FDC at the ongoing mid-term accountability rallies organized by the Kasese Municipality Member of Parliament.
Currently, Hon. Ferigo Kambale is traversing all the three divisions in Kasese Municipality to explain to the electorate some projects that the ruling NRM party has been able to implement in his area of jurisdiction and what he has personally done to the public in a period of two and a half years.
At the rallies, some people have been pledging their allegiance to the NRM party, accusing FDC of allegedly been feeding them with lies.
However, Mr. Alfred Kule Ikwera, the General Secretary for FDC in Kasese says NRM has been using its real members to disguise as opposition members to deceive the public that the ruling party is becoming stronger.
While addressing journalists at the District FDC offices in Kasese town, Mr. Ikwera referred to a rally that was held in Kidodo where according to him, some NRM members claimed to be defectors from the FDC party even when they have never been its members.
Mr. Tom Bwambale, the FDC Chairperson for Railway Ward said he was disappointed when he heard his name on the list of people claiming to have defected.
Responding to Mr. Ikwera’s concerns, Mr. Selevano Kiiro Mulhondi, the Kasese Municipality NRM Chairperson described them as baseless, adding that the people who defect from the opposition to the ruling party hand in the membership cards of their former political parties.
He revealed that during the ongoing rallies, at least 300 people have been recruited into the ruling party.
According to him, their target is to see FDC cease in the Municipality so that the urban centre is painted yellow.
