Government has revealed plans of launching a 70- billion shillings water project that would serve most parts of Kasese district that are not accessed to safe and clean drinking water.
The water project which will have its source in the highlands of Kyarumba is expected to address the challenge of water scarcity in 14 identified sub-counties across the district.
Mr. Elias Byamungu, the Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer made the revelation today afternoon while speaking to the press at Rwenzori International Hotel in Kasese town.
He named some of the sub-counties that will benefit from the project including Nyakiyumbu, Nyakatonzi, Lake Katwe, Bwera and Kahokya among others.
The Chief Administrative Officer used the same platform to announce that they have drafted another five –year development plan aimed at developing a number of sectors including health and infrastructure so that the district moves at the same pace with other faster growing ones.
According to him, the drafted development plan is expected to consume over shillings 700 billion.
He was optimistic that in conjunction with the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu and religious institutions, Kasese will reach another level in terms of development.
