Local leaders from Kitholhu sub-county, Bukonzo County West in Kasese district have decried the alleged insufficient social services in their respective villages.
They sounded the remarks yesterday while reporting to the Kasese Deputy RDC in-charge of Bukonzo County, Lt. Maate Magwara who visited the area yesterday for a community meeting that was held at Ikobero Church of Uganda.
But at the meeting, the local leaders told the RDC that they were lacking sufficient staff at government health facilities and schools coupled with other challenges related to poor roads and lack of electricity.
They also reported some teachers at government grant –aided primary schools were being transferred without replacement hence leading to poor performance.
About security, the local leaders appealed to government to establish a police post in the lower local government, arguing that they share the services of police with Kithoma – Kanyatsi Town Council.
Mr. Emmanuel Kule Maliba, the L. C III Chairperson for Kitholhu sub-county explained that due to lack of good roads, they are sometimes limited from accessing social services, calling for government’s intervention into the matter.
He immediately asked the President’s representative in the district to convince government to open –up security roads in the sub-county as promised by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Mr. Ericana Masimengo, one of the L. C I Chairpersons in the sub-county, noted that in addition to the poor roads that affect the transportation of agricultural goods to the market centres, they do not have access to electricity and also face another challenge of food insecurity.
In his remarks, the Officer in-charge of Kithoma Police Station in Kithoma – Kanyatsi Town Council, one Opiro cautioned the residents against the practice of hiding thieves at their homes.
He also observed need for the residents to be following up cases that are reported at police especially after the suspects have been arrested.
Responding to the local leaders’ concerns, Lt. Magwara assured them that he would engage the district leadership to plan for the development of the area.
He, on the other hand, challenged the residents to be security conscious through sharing information that might cause insecurity in the area to the security operatives.
