The parliamentary committee on trade, tourism and industry has commended the Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute-UWRTI for the heavy infrastructural development projects that the facility is undertaking.
Last year, with support from the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance, the institute embarked on the development of a new storied class room block and a new administration block.
When complete, the infrastructure is expected to become the new of home of the wildlife education facility as it is intent on shifting from its current premises which are said to be too close to the lake.
The construction works which are being undertaken by Ambitious Construction Company are expected to be completed by the end of May this year.
Now, during the site visit on Saturday, the parliamentary committee chairperson, Hon Mwine Mpaka, revealed that the far the construction has reached is an indicator that the institution has embraced the proper utilization of the world bank fund that was intended to improve infrastructure at the research facility.
Hon Francis Mwijukye, the Buhweju County MP noted that unlike so many other government projects where funds are misappropriated, UWRTI has portrayed that it is committed to placing resources for the intended purpose.
Prof Elijah Mushemeza, one of the committee members, however, observed the need to enhance funding to the research institute so that they also construct a girls’ dormitory which is one of the facility’s unfunded priorities.
