Over 140 people from the opposition political parties in Bukonzo County East, Kasese District have defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement citing divisions in their former political parties.
The defectors, most of them from the Forum for Democratic (FDC) including the party flag bearer for the District Woman Councilor representing Munkunyu Sub-county, Mary Masika Mukokoma and NUP pronounced their decision yesterday at Cardinal Nsubuga Memorial Secondary in Munkunyu sub-county.
Drawn from Munkunyu sub-county, Kisinga and Kinyamaseke Town Councils, the defectors told the District NRM Boss, Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga that in addition to the two FDC factions of Katonga and Najjanankumbi, they decided to come to the ruling party because of its unity, peace and socio-economic transformation programs.
They mentioned the Parish Development Model program, security and President Museveni’s refusal to accept the homosexuality activities in Uganda.
They were subsequently received by the Bukonzo County East NRM Chairperson, Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude.
Dr. Rude urged them to become ambassadors of the ruling party so that it registers success in the 2026 general elections.
Later, Dr Kiyonga commissioned them to go and mobilize support for NRM and quickly asked them to popularize some government programs in their localities.
