The Kasese District Chairperson, Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi has revealed that the local government has continued losing much local revenue following the disputes arising from the Isango Cattle Holding Market in Bukonzo County West.
Mr. Muhindi made the revelation on Tuesday while addressing Councilors during the council sitting at the District Multipurpose hall in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.
According to the District Boss, an assessment made from October last year to May 06 this year indicated that a lot of money he did not specify had been lost following the fight for the market between Isango Sub-county and Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Town Council.
Muhindi, who regretted such a decline in the local revenue collections, called for harmony and a coordinated way of settling the dispute in a bid boost the local revenue collections.
He, however, noted that the district was in the process of convincing the Ministry of Local Government to construct a market in Isango sub-county for the benefit of the two lower local governments in conflict as well as the district itself.
He expressed disappointment over what he called undeclared projects in some sub-counties, adding that the act leads to a decline in the local revenue collections. In his remarks, the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Elias Byamungu said he had been guided by the Minister of Trade to look for someone to tender the market as a means of avoiding many people from collecting taxes from Isango Cattle Holding Market.
