Bukonzo County East MP calls for an alternative use of analysis machines to get DNA results of the remaining 11 victims of the ADF attack on Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Secondary School

BY ISAAC MUMBERE

The Chairperson of the Health Committee of Parliament, Dr. Julius Monday Bwambale Rude who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for Bukonzo County East in Kasese District has urged the government to use alternative analysis machines to get the results of the 11 students of Mpondwe- Lhubiriha Secondary School who are still missing.

On June 16, 2023, Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School was attacked by the ADF rebels, killing 38 students and other community members that made the total of those killed reach 42.

Despite the efforts of the government to identify the victims, 17 of the students were burnt to ashes and 11 of them have never had their results found. This has left their parents in tears.

While addressing parliament yesterday, Dr Rude asked the government to use other machines if those in Uganda have failed to identify the victims or come up with words that might comfort the parents.

He explained that the 11 students are all residents of Bukonzo County East and he has always been meeting their parents who keep asking him about the whereabouts of their children.

Dr. Rude also appealed to the government to provide psychological and financial support to the affected parents to help them cope up with the situation.

Meanwhile,Dr. Rude has also asked the government to explain and confirm to the people of Kasese when her projects especially roads will be completed.

This comes after the Speaker of Parliament reported that the construction works of Kikorono – Bwera Road had reached 4.4 percent completion rate.

Dr. Rude wondered why the road which was talked about in the last four years is still under construction, arguing that the delay consumes government money, appealing for an expedited means of looking for serious contractors to provide quality and proper works.

He also talked about the Kasese Airfield that has always been in the NRM manifestos but has never been worked upon, requesting the government to explain because the idea has always been a presidential pledge.
