The National Private Educational Institutions Association Uganda- NPEIA has launched a tree planting campaign along River Nyamwamba in Kasese Municipality, in support of government efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change that have for long caused loss of lives and property.
As part of the campaign, NPEIA leadership also visited heads of all religious institutions in Kasese District and supplied them with seedlings for planting. The religious leaders welcomed the initiative and pledged to incorporate climate change mitigation messages into their teachings to Christians, calling it a timely intervention.
The National NPEIA chairperson Mr. Hassadu Kirabira further promised to introduce special lessons on climate change for learners in schools, to ensure the younger generation grows up fully equipped to protect the environment.
While receiving seedlings for planting at the South Rwenzori Diocese Headquarters Ven. Robert Ziwa, the Sub-Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, promised to incorporate nature conservation teaching during his interpretation of the scriptures and homilies in church.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Mbusa, the Diocesan Education Secretary at the Catholic Diocese of Kasese welcomed the initiative and called upon all Christians to be exemplary in conserving the environment.
Pastor Erisa Rukara from Rwenzori Field SDA church urged the community to also embrace fruit tree planting for not only nature conservation purposes but also to enhance food safety.
Musa Sudiki Baluku the Kasese District Khadi for the Muslim Community, requested Kasese District community to always act swiftly since they are the direct victims.
