Leaders in Kasese District have urged the youth to embrace vocational skills as a practical solution to unemployment in the country.
The leaders made the appeal on Wednesday while addressing secondary school students from the Lower Local Governments at the skilling competition held at Kasese Technical Institute.
Mr. Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, the District Chairperson, said the skills especially in shoe making, salon management, carpentry and concrete practice have daily market.
The Kasese Assistant RDC, Henry Kabiriri, warned that unemployment was a security threat to the country.
He urged the parents to enroll their children in skilling institutions such as Kasese Technical Institute, Rwenzori Presidential Hub, and Katwe Technical Institute among others.
The institution’s Chief Head Trainer, Dickens Olwoch, said the skilling competition was part of the ongoing sensitization to shift youth mindset from only seeking white- collar jobs to embracing technical and vocational training.
Kihara Road L.CI Chairperson, Justus Sunday, said youth unemployment fuels cases of theft in communities.
