Nyamwamba Division Chairperson sympathizes with traders whose structures are being demolished

BY JONAN MUZIGIT

The outgoing Nyamwamba Division Chairperson in Kasese Municipality, Pimako Kasereka, has symphonized with the traders whose structures are being demolished during the ongoing enforcing exercise.

The nationwide operation aims at restoring trade order by removing illegal structures and directing traders to operate within the gazzetted and enclosed market premises.

Now, Kasereka argues that the traders deserve at least six months to prepare and identify alternative locations for their businesses.

As a local authority, the Division Boss fears that small-scale traders might incur losses that might make ineligible to service the loans that they acquired from some financial institutions.

Kasereka warns that the abrupt demolitions could leave many traders jobless.

In a related development, the L. C I Chairperson for Basecamp Lower in the Central Division of Kasese Municipality, Jafari Kigutia has submitted a letter to the Office of the Resident District Commissioner for Kasese, Lt. Joe Walusimbi, seeking his engagement with some financial institutions operating from the district to halt the interests charged on loans acquired by the affected traders.

He proposes that the government should consider extending trading licenses of the affected businesses in order to cover the periods that they will be unable to operate.
