Opposition leaders in Kasese lash at NRM members for boycotting an organized thanksgiving ceremony

The recently concluded thanksgiving ceremony of the members of the National Resistance Movement in Kasese District has created mixed reactions among the opposition political party leaders following a low turn-up that marred the function.

Over the weekend, the members of NRM Changed Youth organized the function aimed at returning thanks to God for securing many political positions during the 2026 General Elections.

However, all the Members of Parliament -elect from Kasese District declined to attend the function.

This has surprised some members of the opposition political parties after realizing that majority of the people who were elected on the NRM ticket failed to turn up.

Mr. Saulo Maate, the Chairperson of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) in Kasese District says they have failed to identify the essence of the thanksgiving that was not attended by the MPs – elect, majority of the party leaders and the local leaders.

He asks the organizers and party leaders to make a public statement and explain what could have been the cause for the absence of the key people at the celebrations.

However, Maate emphasizes that the people of Kasese expect the district to change and develop in terms of development because the leaders who were recently elected promised to have direct connections with the Central Government.

Maate also says he doesn’t expect the government to complete the forthcoming term without tackling issues of revamping Kilembe Mines, Katwe Salt Factory and Kasese Airfield.

NUP’s Bryans Basisa, alleges that the absence of the leaders who were recently elected could have been as a result of the alleged lack of confidence in their victory.
