Political, cultural and religious leaders in Kasese district have been called upon to intensify their efforts towards sensitizing communities about the need to fight against Gender Based Violence.
The call was made today during the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence at the District Multipurpose Hall in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality.
The event held under the theme, “Avoid Digital Violence,” brought together different stakeholders to raise awareness about the growing concern of Gender Based Violence in the district.
The Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Hon. Dr. Peace Mutuuzo emphasized the critical role that the leaders play in promoting a culture full of respect and safety, particularly using their influential platforms.
The Minister noted that the leaders must use their voices to condemn violence of all forms and ensure that the communities are educated on the prevention and response mechanisms.
She stressed that the 16 Days of Activism campaign which runs from November 25 to December 10, aims at preventing and eliminating Gender-Based Violence.
Hon Florence Kabugho, the Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, called for increased community engagement, emphasizing digital safety and responsible online behaviour.
Mr. Jerevesious Monday Bwambale, the Kasese District Vice Chairperson, who represented his boss, Eliphaz Muhindi Bukombi, pledged total support to the initiative, highlighting the collaboration with NGOs and community groups to protect vulnerable populations
Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu 2nd Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Juliet Best Bakoko, who represented the Kingdom, applauded the government for always supporting the cultural institution’s activities and pledged to work closely with her authorities to address the challenge of Gender Based Violence through organizing engagements aimed at solving such cases from the community.
