Maliba sub-county residents express hope to get richer

A section of residents in Maliba Sub-county, Busongora County North in Kasese district is currently hopeful that they might soon get out of poverty following the discovery of a suspected mineral in the area.

The residents most of whom from Kabuyiri village in Nyangorongo Parish suspect that the area could be hosting gold a mineral that they started attempts of extracting from underground.

Today morning, Messiah Radio visited the extraction site and interacted with the excited people who were seen at the site while digging the ground and packing some of the gravel that they would sample to ascertain if it contains gold.

However, Isa Muhindo, the team leader of the people collecting the samples told Messiah Radio that it was not yet the time for the residents to rejoice because they were still suspecting the existence of gold in the area basing on the experience from other areas like Mubende.

Muhindo, who claimed to have attained skills in mineral extraction, put it clear that they suspect Kabuyiri village to be having gold and were trying to find the truth in order to go to another step.

Muhindo asked the government to give them freedom to try their best and carry out activities that would enable them realize if the mineral exists or not.

Ezron Bwambale Kamende, the Local Council I Chairperson for the neighbouring Buhweza village called upon the people not exaggerate the information but continue with their normal economic activities, arguing that they had not yet proved if the suspected mineral exists in the area.
