Concerned leaders in Kasese Call for Installation of Road Humps along the Major Highways

Concerned leaders in Kasese district have observed the need for the government through the Ministry of Works and Transport to devise means of installing road humps along the Kasese – Bwera Highway as a means of reducing the rate at which road carnage in claiming the lives of people.

The latest incident happened on November 11, 2025 at 9pm near Kasese Cobalt Company Limited along the Kasese – Bwera Highway where Rt. Hon. Gad Baluku Mbayahi Bakwanamaha, the former Chairperson of the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Prime Ministerial Committee sustained injuries after being involved in a road accident.

He was then rushed to Rukoki Hospital in Kasese town and later transferred to Kampala International Hospital in Bushenyi – Ishaka Municipality from where he was pronounced dead last evening at around 8pm.

Addressing the mourners at his Kasese Municipalised based home today afternoon, Hon. Yowasi Thembo Mugambwa, who is the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Minister of Security and Protection, decried the increasing number of road accidents along the same Highway, a reason why he suggested to the government to put humps so that the road users including taxi drivers are forced to use low speed as means of controlling road carnage.

In his remarks, Zedekia Kambasu Kayiri, the Kasese Municipality Deputy Town Clerk, described the Late Bakwanamaha as a person who has been hardworking and a disciplined civil servant in the education department as a Head teacher having served at various primary schools within the Municipality and the entire district.

Before his demise, the Late Bakwanamaha recently declared his interest to contest for the Kasese district Chairpersonship on the NUP ticket but his efforts were cut short when he failed to present the required number of signatures for nomination to the Electoral Commission.

While appearing on a show at Rwenzori Television, the Late Bakwanamaha was courted saying that as a leader, someone needs to listen to the concerns of the community and then forge ways of addressing them.

His body will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at his country home in Kinyamaseke Town Council, Bukonzo County East.
