The leadership of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality has called for consorted efforts towards improving sanitation of the urban centre as they demand for a city status.
The call was sounded yesterday by the Deputy Chairperson for the Division, Ms Olivia Ninsiima, during a meeting that was attended by the Division leadership, Local Council I Chairpersons and VHTs.
Ninsiima said there was no way the town would be elevated to a city status when the business owners especially those operating near the newly constructed tarmac roads are still dumping garbage in the trenches. The act according to her poses a health risk to the people during the rainy season.
The Nyamwamba Division Town Clerk, Adidas Bithibangyi, urged the residents to be mindful of the meat that they consume.
According to him, it has been observed that some people opt for cheaper meat which might pose a health threat to their lives in future.
He also wondered why some individuals shamelessly spread wastes in the town without considering their health implications.
The Gombolola Internal Security Officer, DavidFriday Mutiba implored the Chairperson Local Council Is to conduct community meetings aimed at sensitising the masses about the dangers of poor sanitation.
Ellen Biira, a VHT from Kihara Ward, lectured the people that staying in a clean environment should be everyone’s responsibility.
