A section of NRM members from Busongora County South in Kasese district has supported the idea of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Gideon Thembo Mujungu to participate in the forthcoming General Elections as an independent candidate.
Mujungu participate in the party primary elections on July 17 but lost the flag to David Mulindwa Isimbwa. He then ran to the NRM Elections Tribunal trying to challenge the election of Isimbwa as the flag bearer but the tribunal on Saturday instead dismissed his petition citing lack of evidence. This means that Isimbwa’s election as the elected flag bearer was upheld.
Addressing the press las evening at Virina Gardens in Kasese town, Mujungu noted that he had suggested to the tribunal to cancel the election results he had contested but instead they were allegedly increased, something that forced him to seek advice from voters who encouraged him never to drop his political bid.
Mujungu thus put it clear that he would participate in the 2026 General Elections as an independent candidate as a means of ensuring justice from the voters.
Ms. Gevina Masika, a mobilizer from Kilembe sub-county argues that she was too annoyed with the tribunal for not allegedly serving justice to the candidate that they entrusted with their votes.
She said that they were ready to strengthen their mobilization strategies so that Mujungu is re-elected to the August House.
Gideon Kiconco from Karusandara sub-county, says their support to the independent candidate was to challenge the tribunal that they had overwhelmingly voted for Mujungu as their choice.
