Clergy in South Rwenzori Diocese discouraged from participating in partisan politics

BY MATHIUS KAHUNGU

The South Rwenzori Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku has discouraged the clergy to desist from the act of involving some church activities in partisan politics.

Bishop Baluku sounded the discouragement today afternoon while addressing the congregation at St. Luke’s Ndongo Church of Uganda Parish in Bwera Archdeaconry where he had gone to confirm 158 Christians into the Anglican faith with a call on them to live a prayerful and patient life.

The Prelate explained that entertaining partisan politics in the church tends to bring divisions among the Christians as well as jeopardizing the church values including unity.

The Man of God reaffirmed the church’s commitment to playing a neutral role in the political arena.

According to him, the church welcomes all political actors regardless of their respective party affiliations.

The Bishop cautioned the members of the public to shy away from the act of forcefully searching for quick and fatty positions, arguing that such a vice is likely to them into trouble especially if they don’t succeed in the process.
